Miles Murphy IV

Heaven gained its newest, bright young angel very unexpectedly on Saturday, September 21, 2019 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Miles Joseph Murphy IV, age 22, radiated happiness & love wherever he went & he touched the lives of countless people in his short time on this earth.

Miles is survived by his father & mother Miles III & Cynthia Murphy, his older sisters Lauren & Molly, his younger brother Eric, paternal grandparents Dr. Miles & Judith Murphy, & maternal grandparents Robert & Rita Manor, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends.

Miles graduated from Catholic Central High School, & just graduated from the Western Michigan University Haworth College of Business with honors. From his first day, his adventurous soul was ready to conquer the world. Miles was a strong Catholic. Miles was intellectual and inquisitive. He was avid reader & read his way through every library he came across. Miles loved his country & learning its history and the history of the world. He loved a nice cold glass of sweet southern iced tea, cooking a gourmet meal (no recipe required!) and sitting down with his family for a Saturday evening dinner. Our sweet Miles was deeply devoted to his family & friends whom he loved very much. Miles was a gracious gentleman to everyone he met.

Miles was planning an employment move to California, but was currently a valued employee at Country Fresh – Dean Foods. Miles loved volunteering, especially at places like the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, the Knights of Columbus, and ushering at church.

Miles was preceded in death by his dear cousin Adam Murphy, his great uncle Msgr. Francis Murphy, & his great uncle & aunt Patrick Murphy & Jackie Murphy.

Family will greet friends and relatives on Wednesday, September 25 from 2-4 PM at 6-8 PM, with a Rosary at 7:30 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1935 Plymouth Ave SE, Grand Rapids. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, September 26 at 11 AM, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Troy Nevins presiding, visitation one hour prior to Mass.  Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.

  25. Miles and Cindy we have been saying the Rosary around the clock for your son and family. This is such a difficult and sad time and we pray God fills you with grace and courage for the days ahead. God bless your family and surround you with peace.

  26. From when I first walked in to IHM until the last time I saw him, Miles always made me feel like feel as though I was special to him. Even after I moved away and hadn’t seen him for years, our interactions always began with a “hey how ya doin man” and a “bring it in.” My sadness upon hearing the news was for those people in his future that he would have made an impact on. Miles was a special spirit that I’ve seldom come across in all the places I’ve been in my life, and I am a better person for having known him.

  27. Our hearts go out to your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. May God wrap Miles up in his loving arms and help guide your family through this difficult time. God bless.

  28. Miles, my heart grieves with you and your family for the loss of such a wonderful young man and beloved son. We are on the other side of the globe and not able to attend the memorial services, but I want you to know that I am praying for you and your family. May the God of comfort surround you with the peace that surpasses anything that this world can comprehend.

  29. To all of Miles’ family,
My thoughts and prayers for all of you during this time of sadness and grief. It is times like these when our faith is tested, and I know your faith will carry you onward. I remember Miles from teaching him freshmen year, then in his senior year at CC. I found him very personable, caring, faith filled, funny and such a good young man. He was the kind of student one does not forget. Even my son Matthew remembers him from being on the track team with Miles. Miles is now in the presence of our Loving Lord. Again, prayers will be for you in the many days ahead.
    Peace,
Mr. David Koss, Mary Koss and Matthew Koss
