Mitchell HeeYun VanPortfleet entered into eternal peace with the Lord Friday, July 1, 2016. He was the devoted husband and father to Markie VanPortfleet and her daughter Maybel Watt, loving son of Douglas and Barbara VanPortfleet, and beloved brother to Abigail Whitener (VanPortfleet). He was always faithful as a reservist in the United States Marine Corps, stationed out of Battle Creek, Michigan. Mitch graduated from West Catholic High School in 2006, and received a track and field scholarship to Grand Valley State University, where he excelled as a scholar-athlete. He graduated from Michigan State University in 2013 with his B.S. in Engineering. Mitch’s smile and laugh were endearingly contagious, and anyone who came into contact with him couldn’t help but reflect his big grin. Mitch loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and daughter, and being around his family. He is survived by wife Markie; daughter Maybel; parents Barb and Doug; sister Abigail; half brother Brian (Tonya) VanPortfleet; half sister Andrea (Michael) Eadie; nephews Rafael and Miguel Nieto, Kaden VanPortfleet, and Brendon Eadie; niece Megan Eadie; and grandparents Nicholas and Juanita Capriglione. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-8:00 p.m. at Roth-Gerst Chapel, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4351 Parnell N.E., Ada. Rev. Mark Peacock presiding. Interment with Military Honors at St. Patrick Cemetery.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations to the Semper Fi fund be made in Mitchell’s name.
