Muriel May Burger was born on July 16, 1926, in Grand Rapids, MI, where she lived her entire life. She married the love of her life, Bill Burger, on April 25, 1947. Together they had a son, Paul Burger. They were married until Bill’s death in 1983. Bill and Muriel met working with the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre.

Music was a big part of Muriel’s life, and she was a founding member of the Grand Rapids Opera where she had many jobs. She was even the make-up artist in the early days. In addition to the Grand Rapids Opera, she worked at The Grand Rapids Press before she was married, then went on to work retail at Disselkoen Jewelry Store, as an Events Coordinator for the Amway Grand Plaza, and as a personal buyer for women at Hudson’s and Leigh’s. Muriel also sang in the Grand Rapids Symphonic Choir and in her church choir at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, where she and her husband were members.

Muriel was known for her red hair and always looked like a million bucks. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She will be missed by all who knew her. Muriel is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, George and Marian Noteware; her brother, Alan; her in-laws, Earl and Claribel Burger; and her sister-in-law, Janine Vanderklok (Jack). She is survived by her son, Paul (Susan); grandchildren, Zachary and Heather; and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, and memorial contributions can be made to Emmanuel Hospice, 401 Hall Street, Ste 263, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503.
