Murray L. Sullivan, age 90 of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, John of Webster, NY, Dan (Laura) of Grand Rapids; daughter, Licia Gladu of Crystal, MN; six grandchildren, Scott, Daniel, Brandon, John, Danielle, Patrick; and seven great grandchildren. Murray held an under-graduate degree from MSU and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan. He was a WWII Navy veteran who served on Iwo Jima, was a third degree Mason with the Scottish Rite, a Shriner, a one-time principal clarinetist for the Grand Rapids Symphony and taught band at Riverside Junior High School. Murray loved music, was an avid reader, took part in many local musical activities in the area and was a well-known teacher of the clarinet and saxophone. Murray was preceded in death by his wife, Florence in 2000; and siblings Neal Sullivan, Jean Haremski and Helen Jenkins. Memorial Services will be held Friday 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Chapel at the Terraces of Maple Creek, 2000 32nd St. S.E., Grand Rapids. Chaplain Rebecca Ebb-Speese officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Murray will be interred at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cascade Township.
