SWANSON Mrs. Myrtle Swanson 108 passed away on December 2 2010. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. on December 8 2010 with the funeral following at O’Brien-Gerst Funeral Home 3980 Cascade Rd. SE Grand Rapids MI. Dunbar Funeral Home Devine Street Chapel assisted the family in Columbia. Born in North Judson IN on October 3 1902 she was the daughter of the late Mike and Katherine Dahlke. She lived in the Grand Rapids area with her husband of 75 years Chester Swanson until his death in 1996. She then lived with her daughter Betty Hopkins and son-in-law William for the next nine years. She entered Atria Assisted Living in 2005 where she remained until her death. While living away from Grand Rapids she always considered it her home and often told staff at Atria that she was leaving and going back to Michigan. Now she will be going back to Michigan to be laid to rest next to her husband at the Cascade Cemetery. Mrs. Swanson is survived by her daughter Betty Hopkins of Sumter; grandson Mike Hopkins (Pam) of Columbia; great-granddaughter Nicole Cooney (Brian) of Spokane WA; great-grandson Travis Hopkins of Columbia; special nephew Larry Dahlke and his wife Nancy of Grand Rapids MI; numerous other loving family members and friends. The family wishes to thank the Atria Assisting Living staff for the loving care and kindness she received while living with them. Also thanks to the Regency Hospice staff for their great assistance.
