Nancy Flaig, age 74, of Grand Rapids (formerly of Duluth MN, Kalamazoo, MI and Jackson MI.), joined God the Father and Jesus in Heaven on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Nancy shares her heavenly home with her Grandmother Helen Porta and her parents William and Ruth (Dugan) Flaig. After her mother’s death, William Flaig remarried Jane (Williams), who also preceded Nancy in death. William moved the family to Jackson Mi. Nancy graduated from St. Mary’s Highschool and then, Jackson Junior College/Foote school of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Nancy was an excellent nurse, working with several institutions including Borgess Medical Center. After raising her children, Nancy became a chaplain and worked through several health care organizations to support the spiritual health of patients and staff alike. Nancy was consecrated through the Order of Saint Benedict and lived the rule of St. Benedict throughout her years, ministering to all with love and hospitality. Nancy is survived by her son’s and families: Murray and Katy (Loughrin) McLaughlin with granddaughters Hailey and Maudie. William and Debbie (Patton) McLaughlin with granddaughters Brianna, Kayla, Cassidy, Ciara and her husband Casey and son Harbor. Donations can be made to the World War II Veteran’s Memorial in the name of William Flaig or please request a Mass be said in Nancy’s name at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, GR, MI. or St. Scholastica Monastery, Duluth, MN. A visitation will be Tuesday, 10/24/17 6-8:00 PM, with the rosary recited at 7:30 PM. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, 10/25/17, 11:00 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2750 Burton St. S.E., Grand Rapids, preceded by a viewing at 10am. Rev. Peter Damian presiding.
