Nancy Mabelle (Noel) Evenson, aged 83 years, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, peacefully passed away to be with our Lord on October 10, 2021. Nancy was born in Muskegon, MI on July 29,1938, attended Muskegon Catholic Schools, and graduated from Michigan State University. After graduating she spent a year in Germany as a teacher teaching American children and then came back to teach in the city of Grand Rapids. Her husband, Charles Robert Evenson Jr, preceded her in death; they were married 34 years. Nancy was an active member of St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Grand Rapids Art Museum for many years. Nancy loved her golf and belonged to Club Pelican Bay in Naples, FL, Kent Country Club in Grand Rapids, and Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club in San Antonio, FL. Nancy was a very talented professor of the Ikenobo school of Ikebana. She was active in a local bridge club and valued her social time with friends. She was always ready to host a gathering and was a talented hostess. She is survived by her daughter, Julia (Evenson) Morrison; her daughter, Lisa (Evenson) Haarsma (Arlo), and granddaughter, Charley Haarsma; her brothers, George Noel (Melissa) and Robert Noel (Diana); and nephew, Richard Noel (Caryn). Nancy was loved and will be sorely missed. May God rest her soul.” Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 AM Thursday, October 14, 2021, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1449 Wilcox Park Dr SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. Fr. James Chelich, presiding. Interment Graceland Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to American Red Cross, Kent County Chapter 1050 Fuller Avenue NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49502-3032.

  1. On behalf of the Aquinas community, we extend our sympathy to Nancy’s family. She was an active member of her Faith community and the civic community. May your memories of her keep her close at heart. God grace you with Gratitude and Peace as you celebrate her life and Risen Life in Christ. Nancy will be remembered by name during a Memorial Mass for all deceased Alums and their family members on Thursday, November 18 at 4:30pm in Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel on Aquinas’ campus. Know of our prayerful support.
