Patricia M. Vander Maas of Grand Rapids, passed to the Lord on May 13, 2019, after leading a beautiful life that brought joy to all those around her. She was born the seventh child to Jim and Mary Borst, and lived in Grand Rapids. Pat worked at Bell Telephone Company before she met the love of her life, Henry (Hank) Vander Maas. Henry and Pat were married on April 22,1950. They spent a loving 51 years of marriage before Hank’s passing in 2001. Pat was known for her sense of humor, rose gardens, rock collecting, writing stories about her life, and empathy for others. Pat is survived by her daughter Laura Kenning, and son Jim Vander Maas (Diane). Pat was proud of and loved her grandchildren; Doug Kenning, Mary Swinson (Jay), Rose Britt (John) and Tyler Vander Maas. She adored her three great grandchildren Willow and Penny Swinson, and Jackson Britt. Visitation will be at O’Brien Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids 49546,on Friday, May 17 from 5pm-7:30 PM. Pat’s Memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 227 E. Fulton Street, Grand Rapids 49503 at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 18 in the sanctuary, Rev. Tim Tuthill officiating.
