Penny Lynn (Shafer) Lindberg, age 62 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Hundred, WV, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 2, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Aileen Shafer; and brother James Shafer. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa (James) Ratliff of Ellettsville, IN, Rachael (Carl) Rowden of Grand Rapids; brother Michael (Sarah) Shafer of Metz, WV; sister-in-law, Barbie Shafer; seven grandchildren; and a special friend and companion of 14 years, Col (Ret) Don Hunt of Mechanicsburg, OH. Penny’s hobbies were scrapbooking and sewing for her grandchildren. Her beloved Cocker Spaniel, Tasha, was the light of her home life. She was in nursing with Butterworth Hospital, Porter Hills Nursing Home, Mary Free Bed Hospital and private home nursing for two special families which had a very moving and positive effect on her life. After nursing she did extensive traveling with her friend, Col Hunt, throughout the states and made frequent visits to her friends, school mates and relation in Hundred, WV where her roots were. Penny was a very loving, caring and giving person who touched everyone in a positive way. Her love for others was the characteristic that made her special to all who knew her. Penny’s love touched so many and left so many people better because of her presence. Memorial Service will be held Friday 6:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road S.E., Grand Rapids. Visitation one hour prior.
