Raymond L. Donahue, age 88 of Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret “Sue”; parents Thomas and Lillian Donahue; son Dennis; daughter Nancy Rabideau; son-in-law Kris Kamrath; sister Catherine Andrew. He is survived by his children Thomas (Cindy) Donahue, Colleen Kamrath, Michael (Barbara) Donahue; son-in-law Bill Rabideau; grandchildren Erin and Nick Kamrath, Kelan and Brenna Donahue, Luke Rabideau; brother Richard (Joyce) Donahue; sisters Agnes McKenna, Patricia Roka; also nieces and nephews. Ray was born March 22, 1928 in Hubbardston, MI where his love for family, friends and his Irish Heritage helped form his strong Catholic faith.  He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle since 1968. He retired from the Grand Rapids Fire Department after 34 years as an arson investigator. Ray was a member of American Legion Post 182 Hubbardston, MI, The Knights of Columbus, a Gold Card Member of the Casino Club, and a devoted Detroit Tigers fan. Golfing, hunting and a friendly game of Euchre were some of Ray’s favorite pastimes. Visitation will be Friday 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. The family will also meet with friends and relatives one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1449 Wilcox Park Dr. S.E., Grand Rapids. Rev. James Chelich and Deacon James Thorndill concelebrants. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Educational Fund.
