Rose Hackett Nanzig, of Grand Rapids, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Dr. Reinard P. Nanzig and daughter Amy. She is survived by her five caring sons and wonderful daughters-in-law Paul (Jenee), Tom (Barb), Jim, Rob (Dianne), David (Sarah); 6 grandchildren Shelby, Michael, Brittany, Max and Scott Nanzig, and Megan Thauer; brother Pat (Barbara) Hackett; brother-in-law Bob Rainer; sister-in-law Alberta Braskamp; also many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Rose was born in Mt. Pleasant, MI to J. Franklin Hackett D.V.M. and Lillian. She graduated from Central Michigan University and taught in the Grand Rapids schools. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Stephen’s Church in East Grand Rapids, St. Robert’s Church in Ada, and St. Paul the Apostle Church. Through the years she was active in the Kent County Medical Alliance, St. Mary’s Guilds, St. John’s Guild and at Cascade Hills Country Club since 1953. Rose enjoyed music, reading, cooking and bridge. She played tennis, golf, bowled and traveled with her family. Her sense of humor and positive attitude were enjoyed by all. She leaves behind her close, loving family who share her confidence, compassion and friendly attitude. They would like to thank the staff at Marywood, Porter Hills and Blodgett for the compassionate and loving care given to Rose. Visitation will be Monday 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. The family will also meet with friends and relatives one hour prior to the Mass at the church.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2750 Burton St. S.E., Grand Rapids. Msgr. Ernest P. Schneider presiding. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s, Advancement Department, 2355 Knapp St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
