Ruth Dunfey Nelson, a loving wife, mother, grandparent, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend, entered her glorious heavenly home on June 14, 2021 at age 78. She is survived by her devoted, loving husband and best friend, R. Paul Nelson with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. She leaves behind her children John (Deb), Amy Marchinda (David), and Michael (Tricia) and grandchildren, her affectionately named “baby bunnies,” Matthew, Timothy, Maria, Tinsae, Kidist, Mary, Naomi, Sophia, John, David and Charissa. In addition, she leaves behind her brothers, William (Joan) Dunfey and Richard (Marilyn) Dunfey and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children who all brought light to her life. To all of Ruthie’s loved ones, she would say: “Glorify the Lord with me, together let us praise his name.” She leaves a legacy of unwavering faith, love and joy. She praised and thanked God for each blessing in her life.  To celebrate her love of life, laughter, and song, please join us at O’Brien Gerst Funeral Home, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 from 4-7 pm June 16, 2021.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Robert of Newminster, 6477 Ada Dr SE, Ada, MI 49301 on June 17, 2021, at 11 am. Family will welcome visitors one hour in advance of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to St. John Vianney elementary school, 4101 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, MI 49509 where Mrs. Nelson spent her working years as a kindergarten teacher and fondly remembered every student.
