Sandra (Spence) Dorward, age 84 of Savannah, GA and Saginaw, MI passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday, October 26, 2021. She is survived by her children, Tamera Dorward, and Alexandria Barner (Scott); granddaughters, Caitlin and Madison Barner; sister, Susie S. Burns; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, James A. Dorward; and son, James E. (Duke) Dorward.

Sandra was raised in Saginaw, MI. After graduating from Duchesne Residence School in New York City, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri to teach at a private boy’s school. Returning to Saginaw she met and married Jim and together they raised their children and were active in the community. In 1999 they retired to Skidaway Island in Savannah, GA.

Sandra volunteered generously with numerous organizations in Saginaw throughout her lifetime, acting as chairwoman to events and holding leadership positions within various organizations. The primary beneficiaries of her time and talents were the Junior League of Saginaw, St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room and the Children’s Free Ward.

Sandra was an avid golfer, both in Saginaw at the Saginaw Country Club where she served as President of the Association and later enjoying play on multiple courses, 5 days a week, at The Landings. A lifetime bridge player she recently took up mahjong allowing her to stay active and engaged.

Above all else Sandra was dedicated to her family and her love for and pride in Tammy, Sandy, Scott, Caitlin, and Madison has always been boundless. We will toast to her daily.

Memorial service will be held 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum, 5950 Gratiot Rd., Saginaw, MI 48638.
