Shirley Anne Margaret (nee Schemanske) Carroll, age 80 of Grand Rapids, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 after courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was born November 8, 1932 in Detroit to StanleyJ. and Clara M. Schemanske. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Esther Jean McDonald; brother, Erwin Arthur Schemanske. She is survived by her brother, George Schemanske of Fruitland Park, FL; sister, Sister Maria IHM of Monroe, MI; children, Sharon O’ Carroll (David Shookman) of Grand Rapids, Dianne Carroll Burdick (Rob Burdick) of Grand Rapids, Bruce Carroll Jr. (Pam) of Byron Center, Peter O’ Carroll of Sedona, AZ; grandchildren, Sean Griffin, Jennifer Michalak (Mike), Kaitlin, Rian and Justin Bradford, Brittany O’Carroll, Dylan Carroll; great-granddaughter, Hayley Jo Rosemary Michalak; step grandchildren, Evan and Matt (Lexi) Burdick, Ben (Racqual), Jon, Danny Renkema, Christina Shipp (Matt); step great-grandchildren, Skylar Renkema, Sterling Shipp, Jonah Burdick; nieces and nephews Joyce Schemanske (Ron Regan), Janet and Mick Schubring, Mark Schemanske, Shirley Skamial (Rick), Nancy Yelland; dear friends, Peggy Wieland, Ed and Carolyn Dee (they were always there for me); many more friends in my life time. Shirley worked for Old Kent Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Rogers Dept. Store, Intro Marketing and Elite Marketing. She was a member of the Women’s City Club, Grand Rapids Ladies Literary Club, Grandville Ladies Literary Club, Grand Forum, associate member of Sallie Bender Guild and Opera Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1935 Plymouth SE, Rev. Troy Nevins, presiding. Visitation Friday 2-4 & 6-8 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM at the O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE and Saturday one hour prior to the service at church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Killgoar Foundation, 1935 Plymouth SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506 or the Women’s City Club, 254 E. Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
