KRIEG Sister Justyn Krieg OP (formerly Sister Mary Justin) of Grand Rapids (born Martha Krieg in Lampman Saskatchewan CA) died September 8 2011. She was 98 years old and a Dominican Sister for 76 years. After high school Sr. Justyn completed nurses training and later received her BS in Nursing Education from Nazareth College Kalamazoo. For eight years she was Director of Nurses at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley California. After earning a degree in hospital administration at St. Louis University she returned to Pioneers Memorial Hospital as administrator. For 14 years Sr. Justyn served as Administrator of Villa Elizabeth Grand Rapids. She received high commendation for her compassion and understanding treatment of each person as an individual human being. She considered herself especially blessed for having the opportunity to serve the aged ill in her own later years.Summing up her life of ministry she said that she loved every place where she was missioned and was grateful to spend her last years at Marywood where she received many spiritual benefits. Sister Justyn will repose at Chapel of the Word Marywood Health Center 111 Lakeside Dr. NE in Grand Rapids with visitation on September 11 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Remembering Service will be on at 7:00 p.m. at Dominican Chapel/Marywood 2025 East Fulton Street. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on September 12 at Dominican Chapel/Marywood. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials in Sister Justyn Kriegs name may be made to the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters Health Care Fund.
