VISNER Sister Rose Miriam OP (the former Marie Rose Visner) of Grand Rapids Michigan (born in Muskegon) died January 20 2010. She was 106 years old and a Dominican Sister for 85 years. Sr. Rose Miriam was the oldest living graduate of Catholic Central High School. The teaching career of Sister Rose Miriam spanned more than 50 years. Of these years she wrote My classes within my years of teaching ranged from first through twelfth grade no grade excepted. With each new assignment I loved teaching that particular age group. And her students loved her too as her classroom was a place of enormous creativity and energy. Her educational ministry took her to the following schools: St. Mary and SS. Peter & Paul Saginaw; St. Anne Alpena; St. Mary Magdalen Melvindale; Sacred Heart Muskegon Heights; St. Thomas Catholic Central and St. Stephen Grand Rapids; and St. Mary Gaylord.Sister Rose Miriam is survived by her nieces nephews friends and Sisters in her Dominican community. Three of Sister Rose Miriams own sisters Sisters Joachim Perpetua Maria and Elizabeth Mary Visner who preceded her in death were also members of the Dominican Sisters~Grand Rapids. Sister Rose Miriam will repose at Chapel of the Word Marywood Health Center 111 Lakeside Dr. NE in Grand Rapids with visitation there on January 22 2010 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Remembering Service will be on January 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Dominican Chapel/Marywood 2025 East Fulton Street. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at on January 23 at Dominican Chapel/Marywood. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials in Sister Rose Miriam Visner’s name may be made to the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters Health Care Fund.
