Terrell Lee “Terry” Vroonland, age 74 of East Grand Rapids, went to meet the Lord on Monday, June 25, 2012. Terry was in the U.S. Air Force when he met Takami at a roller skating rink in Tokyo, Japan on July 4, 1959. Six months later on January 26, 1960, they were married at the United States Embassy in Japan. Over their 52 years of marriage, Terry retired from the U.S. Army Reserve and U.S. Post Office, graduated from Aquinas and had 3 sons. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy. He is survived by his wife, Takami; sons, Terry, Jr. and Clifford (Lisa); grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Hunter, Ethan and Emma; sister, Sherri (Ron); brother-in-law, Shigetake (Michiko) Ohara; several nieces and nephews. Terry’s last fourteen years were challenging due to numerous medical problems and multiple surgeries. He endured with the assistance of his family and friends and many caring medical professionals and found strength through his growing relationship with God. Terry’s family would like to thank all who helped and contributed to his rich and full life. Funeral services will be Friday, July 6 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Church, Rev. Robert Cunningham, officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Military honors will be under the auspices of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Church, 777 E.
