Thomas Michael Monaghan, age 72 of Rockford, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017. Born in 1944 to the late Michael and Marguerite Monaghan in Ashland, PA. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol; children Tom, Trish (Joe) Castiglione, Kristi (Mike) Byrd; grandchildren Michael and Madelyn; sister Peggy (Marv) Shapiro; niece Lisa (Paul) Lambert; nephew Jeff (Katie) Shapiro. Tom started Monaghan Associates, Inc. in 1983; the first and largest regional fundraising firm in West Michigan. He then opened up a second firm, TeMON Consulting, Inc. in 2002. His client list included Children’s Museum, St. John’s Home, Grand Valley Blood Center, Ronald McDonald House, Salvation Army, Lacks Cancer Center, Wolverine YMCA, Grace Adventures, Clark Retirement Home, Grand Rapids Community College, Aquinas College, Ivy Tech Community College, North Idaho College, and many more. Other clients were located throughout the states of Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Idaho, Kansas, Arizona, Wyoming, and New York. Prior to 1983 Tom held the VP of development position at Aquinas College and was a member of the development staff at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA. He was part of the Economics Faculty at St. Bonaventure University, earned his Bachelor’s from St. Vincent’s College and Master’s from West Virginia University.  Two of his favorite places were Cascade Hills Country Club (where he was a member since 1980) and Shadow Wood Country Club (Bonita Springs, FL) where his friends and golfing buddies grew to become part of the family. Boating and spending time with friends and relatives were some of his happiest times while living on Big Brower Lake. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4:00 pm and 6-8:00 pm with the Vigil at 4:00 pm at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 11:00 am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2750 Burton St. S.E., Grand Rapids with visitation from 10-11:00 am. Msgr. Ernest P. Schneider presiding. Interment Courtland Cemetery Saturday Morning. Memorial contributions may be made to Clark Retirement Community Benevolent Care Fund, 1551 Franklin SE Grand Rapids, MI 49506.
