Velta Valentina Lewis, age 86 of Saranac, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Lewis; brothers, John Vecziedins, Karlis Vecziedins; and parents, Janis and Elvira Vecziedins. Velta is survived by her children, Marianna Neeley, Valerie (Timothy) Borgeson; grandchildren, Andrew and Teri Dingman, Phyllissa and Benjamin Neeley, Ryan and Nikolette Borgeson; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Peyton, Ryker; sister, Ilze Schlanderer; and many nieces and nephews. Velta migrated from Latvia at age 13 with her family. She attended Davenport University where she earned her associate degree and retired from Keebler after 40 plus years. Velta loved her cats and gardening, especially roses. She will be remembered for making her Latvian torte cakes and piragi’s. Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Friday, December 3, 2021, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 with visitation one-hour prior.
