Verl A. “Chip” Sanch, Jr., of Cascade Township, gained his angel wings Friday, March 11, 2016.  He was born March 3, 1946 in Saline, MI to Verl A. Sanch and Leota K. (Cross) Sanch. He lived in Britton, MI through High School, where he played on two State Championship basketball teams in 1963 and 1964. He graduated from Adrian College, Adrian, MI in 1968 with a degree in Business Administration. During high school and college he worked summers building homes as a carpenter and built a home on his own at age 20. Having graduated from college at the peak of the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Seabees and served a tour in DaNang, South Vietnam as Petty Officer Second Class Builder (carpenter) reviewing and arranging building material for construction projects needed in the Northern South Vietnam area (I Corps). Returning from military service, he started a job with Michigan Bell Marketing. He was first assigned to Battle Creek in 1970. He stayed with the same job that ended with being associated with AT&T and ending with Lucent Technologies retiring in 2000.  He started MicroChip Communications, contracting back with companies involved in the telecommunications industry, until 2010.  He married Lynn A. Lomas, from Battle Creek, November 19, 1971.  He was very active in local sports and city leagues in Battle Creek, playing in both softball and basketball into his 40’s and played Golf in the Michigan Bell Men’s League in the Grand Rapids area for many years.  He attempted to learn inline skating in his 50’s, staying upright most of the time.  He enjoyed nature photography and teamed with his wife, Lynn, to create inspirational photo poems.  Lake Michigan sunsets were always a favorite excursion.  Chip was active in church, serving in various capacities from Trustee to Treasurer in his life, and was currently a member of Genesis United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids.  Chip is preceded in death by daughter Pamela Lynn Sanch-Bess, brother Merl (Chuck) Sanch and parents. He is survived by his wife Lynn A. Sanch, daughter Lynnette D. Kozak (Rick), grandson Jeffrey A. Blowers (Dawn), granddaughters Heather and Jessie Chastain and three great-grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesis United Methodist Church, 1601 Galbraith S.E., Ste 304, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. A family gathering will be held at Genesis United Methodist Church on Friday, April 1 from 6-8:00 p.m. and a Celebration Service on Saturday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m. with lunch following.
