Vernon William Meyer

Vernon William Meyer, age 81 of Alto, MI went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. He was born to Joseph and Josephine Meyer on July 3, 1936 in Bluffton, IN. Vernon graduated from Bluffton High School in 1954, and Manchester (College) University in 1958, majoring in Chemical Engineering. In 1960 Vernon joined Kitco Inc. of Bluffton, and later became one of the principal owners of Kitco. Vern’s favorite hobbies were watching IU Basketball, eating at Bob Evans with many friends, and telling his favorite jokes. Vernon was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, where he enjoyed the friendship of devoted friends and acquaintances. Vernon will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 59 years, Carol (Kaehr) Meyer; children Patrick (Annie) Meyer, Sonja (Rick) Yeates, Qing (Ping) Men; brother John (Carolyn) Meyer; sister Delores (Simon) Heyerly; grandchildren Alyson (Anthony) Wendel, Amanda (Josh) McCabe, Abigail (Matt) Dull, Addison (Jennifer) Yeates, Molly (Jacob) Rhodes, Patti (Homer) Provonche IV, Jeffrey (Akua) Nettey, Alice and Daniel Tao; great grandson Samuel Tao; also many nieces and nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Josephine Meyer. Visitation will be Friday, April 13, 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 14, 1:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church, 7157 Wingeier Ave., Alto, MI 49302. Interment Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Apostolic Christian Church Food Packing Project, c/o Wally Gerst, Treas., 5900 Thornapple River Dr. S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49512.

    We enjoyed the time we knew you in Bluffton. Vern was such a good neighbor, telling our boys they could use your yard as their personal playground and always stopping to talk when he was mowing. Fond memories of a good man.
