William Patrick Carey, age 84 of Grand Rapids, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances Carey; brothers, Joseph and Jerry Carey; sister, Eleanor Bowen and his children’s mother, Wavajean. He is survived by his children, Patrick (Cathi) Carey, Michael (Mary) Carey, Anne Carey, Terry Carey, Brian Carey, Tim (Kelly) Carey, Ellen Carey and Rose (Andy) Jannenga; grandchildren, Trisha (Danny) Wheaton, Leslyann Carey, Brandon, Collin and Emma Carey, Jacob, Ethan, Ashlyn and Logan Jannenga; great-granddaughter, Samantha Lee Wheaton; also nieces and nephews. Bill graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1946, served in the U.S. Army, returned and obtained a bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College. He was a longtime member of the Circle Theatre, an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan and a Bond insurance salesman for many years. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Rev James A. Chelich, presiding. Internment Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at the O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE.
