Anne Mary Fotias

Anne Mary Fotias aged 87, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, May 9, 2019 at Clark Retirement Center.  She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Eoanna Kossaras; husband; Andreas D. Fotias; sons Cary A. Fotias and James A. Fotias, and brother Gus Kossaras. She is survived by three daughters, Andrea Fotias of Grand Rapids, Maria Bechard (David) of Crestwood, KY, and Martha Fotias of Grand Rapids, and daughter-in-law Mary Fotias of Palmerton, PA; five grandchildren, Rachel Hashagen (Christian), David Bechard, John Bechard, Danielle Bechard, and Brian Smith; brothers George Kossaras (Lia) of Scottsdale, AZ and Nick Kossaras (Carmalee) of Fresno, CA; many nieces and nephews. Anne loved being a mother and was truly a “kid at heart.” She was a devoted wife to her husband Andy for 56 years.   Anne enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, playing the piano, and spending time with friends and family.  She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them about their Greek Heritage. Anne was an active volunteer in both church and school activities in which she shared her creative talents with others. Anne was a major contributor to Hellenic Horizons an organization that presented an exhibit at the Grand Rapids Public Museum chronicling the Greek-American experience. Anne will be remembered for her service to others, her tremendous sense of humor, her “gift of gab” and her unconditional love.  Visitation Saturday, May 11, 2019, 12:30-1:20 pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 330 Lakeside Dr. NE, Grand Rapids, MI. Trisagion services at 1:20 pm followed by funeral services at 1:30 pm, Rev. James Berends officiating, Interment Restlawn Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan, 349 Division Ave South, SE Grand Rapids, MI 49503 or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 330 Lakeside Dr. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.

    I am so so sad to read of your moms passing. I always enjoyed running into her. She was always always so pleasant to talk to. Blessed to have known her. May her memory be eternal.

  2. Dear Fotias Family, We along with our daughters Stephanie, Nicole and Pauline are so saddened that your dear Mother Anne passed. We have so many fond memories and fun times with all of you. She was a wonderful energetic person and full of great jokes!! We will always keep her in our hearts. May her memories be eternal.
