Catherine Irene DiMaria passed away after a long illness on Friday, August 17, 2012. She was our loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She is preceded in death by her son, Carl Anthony DiMaria; her parents, Kenneth and Harriet Krum; her sisters-in-law, Margaret Gapske and Linda Krum and her father and mother-in-law, Sam and Rose DiMaria. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Carl DiMaria; her daughters, Christine DiMaria of Grand Rapids and Carrie (Mark) Mackey of Portage, MI; grandchildren, Kaitlyn DiMaria of Marshall, MI and Jason Mackey who were the light of her life; her brother, Thomas Krum of Lyon Lake, Marshall, MI and niece and nephew, Susan Miller of Vacaville, CA and Kenneth Krum of Battle Creek, MI; sister-in-law, Kathy (William) Blackall, and her children, Jeffrey and Sonny (Crystal) Rice; brother-in-law, William Gapske, and his children, Billy Gapske (Teddi), Beth Ann Mitchelson, Robert Gapske and Barbara Glenn (Rick) and very special friends, Susan and Izzy Bass and many other grand nieces and nephews. Cathie graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1959 where she was Homecoming Queen. She attended Central Michigan University and received her associate’s degree from Kellogg Community College. Cathie was retired from the Kentwood Public School System administration office. She was a 50 year member of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization). Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday 11:00 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2750 Burton SE, Msgr. Ernest P. Schneider, presiding. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul the Apostle/Daniel J. Donnelly Education Foundation, 2750 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546-4998.
