Don Matel (89), of Cascade, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, March 16th of 2022 peacefully at Saint Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Don was born on May 13, 1932, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Don was a very loving and disciplined father who cared for his family both spiritually and financially more than anyone could ask for. He loved to help others and teach his children the basic facts of life. He provided resources generously to church and community associations to help others in need. He retired from Pillsbury after 28 years of service. In his time off on weekends, Don stayed constantly busy balancing customary house chores and family time with his wife Corrie, and children Mike, Karin, Mart and Ken. He spent many hours supporting his children with their extra-curricular activities that took place through his children’s adolescent years. And most importantly, he made it a priority to spend all available time with his family. Don is survived by his sister Dorothy Kant; his daughter Karin; sons Mike (wife Kris), Mart (wife Beth) and Ken (wife Jeanine); 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Don was the youngest of 12 children living on Valley Street on the west side town of Grand Rapids. Don had 37 wonderful years with his first wife Corrie and 6 years with his second wife Beverly. Visitation will take place at Saint Roberts Church in Ada, Michigan on Monday, March 21st from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with mass to follow. A luncheon will follow after the mass at Saint Robert’s.
