Doris Ann Keener, age 88, left this world for her heavenly home on Sunday, December 9, 2018. Doris was born in LaCross, Wisconsin, the third of seven children born to Walter and Rachel Enola Holthaus. She excelled in school and was valedictorian of the class of 1948 at Onalaska High School. Doris attended the University of Wisconsin and there met Richard N. Keener. They were married on September 18, 1950. Doris journeyed through ten moves in their first 20 years of marriage. Their marriage resulted in six children, five of whom survive, B. Alan (Lena), Mark, Kevin (Melissa), Dave (Carla) and Rich (Leighanne). Their daughter, Lynne, preceded both parents in death in 2005. Doris is also survived by sisters, Beverly and Joyce, as well as brothers, Robert, Walter and David. Doris was a compassionate and gentle woman who knew how to be tough when she needed to be in raising her five sons and one daughter. She was a member of Cascade Christian Church for many decades and an enthusiastic choir member for most of those years. Doris served with “Friends of the Library” in Cascade. She was also a member of the Hospital Guild at Spectrum Butterworth, volunteering at the coffee shop as well. Visitation is Friday, December 14 from 4-6 PM at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd SE. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 15 at noon at Cascade Christian Church Chapel, 2829 Thornapple River Dr SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Rev. Jill Forton officiating. Interment Cascade Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Doris’ name may be made to the Cascade Christian Church Chapel Fund.
