Jack J. Lorenz, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. He was born in Muskegon, MI on July 27, 1928 to Leo and Florence Lorenz and was welcomed into Heaven by his loving wife, Stephanie; dear son, Larry; brother, Eldon “Charlie” and his parents. Jack was an accomplished, highly competitive sailboat racer and spent summer weekends at Muskegon Yacht Club where he and his wife were lifetime members. In their earlier years they enjoyed vacationing with their three children sailing port to port on Lake Michigan. After his retirement as a territory salesman at Miller Fluid Power, Jack and Stephanie would spend part of every winter vacationing on beautiful Siesta Key in Sarasota, FL. Jack will not only be remembered for his love of sailing/racing but also for his love of dogs, particularly Boxers. He and Stephanie had the pleasure of owning four Boxers in their lifetime. If you wanted to see Jack’s face light up, just mention one of his dogs!
Being a competitive man, Jack loved cheering on the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings. A highlight for Jack was attending playoff games and the Stanley Cup. Jack’s memory will be cherished by his surviving children, devoted son and caregiver, Randy Lorenz; daughter Susan (Steve) Field; dearly loved granddaughter, Lauren (John) Schaftenaar; daughter-in-law, Jane Lorenz and four nieces and one nephew. A celebration of Jack’s life will take place Oct. 29, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Watermark Country Club, 5500 Cascade Rd., Grand Rapids, MI.
