James M. Barnhart, age 80 of Lowell, has passed away on September 22, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Madeline Barnhart; son, Scott M. Barnhart; sisters, Connie Winerburn and Gaye Washburn; brothers-in-law, Dan Huver and Jerry Winterburn. He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Barnhart; children, Jay (Robin) Barnhart, Steven (Katie) Barnhart; grandchildren, Angelica L. Barnhart, Emma M. Barnhart, Hailey M. Barnhart, Paige E. Barnhart, Noah H. Barnhart, Laura (Brad) Jackson, Lynda (Ryan) Czarnecki, Laurina A. Harden; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Huver; and several nieces and nephews. James was a lifelong resident of the Alto/Lowell area and retired from Dairy Farmers of America after 30 + years. He was a long-time member of the Lowell Moose Lodge and enjoyed golfing, bowling, softball, and tinkering. A Celebration of Life will be held from 11AM to 1PM, Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Lowell Moose Lodge, 1320 E. Main St., Lowell, MI 49331. Memorial contributions may be made out to the Lowell Moose Lodge.

A great teammate, classmate and friend from high school. Jim and I “shared” the same offensive right guard position, on the Lowell High School Red Arrows football team of Fall 1959. He was the starter, but he and I were substituted freely for each other, carrying coach Charlie Pierce’s playcalls in to the huddle. We alternated in and out almost every offensive play.
Our team.was picked to. finish last, but tied for the Grand Valley League championship,with 3 last-minute league wins.
