Popma, Jean 1/28/1927 – 6/18/2016 Grand Rapids, MI Jean Ann Popma (Manning), age 89 of Grand Rapids, rejoined her husband Richard and daughter Dr. Suzanne VanWeelde, in the arms of the Lord on Saturday. She is preceded in death by her brother Frederick, and sisters Patricia, Etta Mae, and Virginia. After a long struggle with health issues she was called home, survived by daughter Christine Bartrum (Clifford), son-in-law Jon VanWeelde, Brother Robert Manning (Jean), sisters Klio Nusbaum and Geraldine Manning, grandchildren Jonathan, Aaron (Cheryl), Kenneth, Jean (Justin), Amanda, Richard, Jared, Kari (Alex), great-grandchildren Cory, Sarah, Gabrielle, Austin, Blake, Alex, Riley, Sophia, Ella, Mason, and her very dear friends Garret and Todd. Many will know her for helping to found the Preschool at Temple Emanuel, as the Pastoral Associate for St. Peter & Paul church, as well helping to found the Steven’s Ministry at St. Thomas the Apostle church, where she was a parishioner for many years. Her love of music and education lives on in her family, and her love of God and service to the Church will always be remembered. Visitation will be held Tuesday 5-8:00 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 5:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1449 Wilcox Park Dr. S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49506. Rev. James Chelich presiding. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the St. Thomas the Apostle tuition fund.
