Joanne Marie (Brock) Burdo, was born in Farwell, MI June 17, 1924. Attended CMU and MSU, graduating in 1942. Joanne studied home economics and textile industries. She worked in Chicago for Carson Perry and Scott and was 1st female floor superintendent. Joanne also worked for Hudson’s in Detroit. She then married Dr. E.W. Burdo, had 2 sons, E.T. (Ginger) Burdo, and Thomas J. (Maricela) Burdo. Joanne also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, E.T. Burdo II, Michael T. Burdo, Alexis A. Burdo, and Isabella L. Burdo. She was very devoted to her church, S.S. Peter and Paul, Ionia, MI. She spent countless hours of devotion and service to the church and its members. Joanne was also very devoted to her community and friends. She taught reading to troubled readers in our schools, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, Eucharist Minister, and delivered communion to shut ins. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a den mother for cub scouts, boy scouts, and attended every event in our lives that she could. Her home was always a refuge for her children, their friends, family. She loved to read and spend time in Charlevoix at the family summer home enjoying sunsets. Visitation will take place 5-7pm Monday, September 6, 2021, at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 with a Rosary at 6:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr SE, Ada, MI 49301. Rev. Danny Orris presiding.
