JOHN L. “JACK” ROBINSON, age 92 of Grand Rapids, died Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Clark Retirement Community. Husband of the late Dorothy Thomson Robinson and the late Ann Plump Robinson; brother of the late Robert W. Robinson, Eunice Miles, Lyman N. Robinson; and son Erick M. Robinson. He is survived by his eight children Marta N. (Thomas) Seiffertt of St. Louis, MO; Alec W. (Patricia) Robinson of San Antonio, TX; Kurt L. Robinson of Kentwood, Peter H. Thomson and Jan Bridgeman, Mark A. (Ann) Thomson, Paul J. (Pamela) Thomson, Jeannie M. Peck all of Grand Rapids, and Dorothy A. (John) Vander Male of Midland, MI; nineteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Following the death of his first wife, Ann, he married Dorothy A. Thomson in 1983, whose first husband Hans had died in 1978. Jack and Dorothy had four and five children from their respective first marriages. Jack was born in Newton, MA in 1924 and graduated from Newton High School. He graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point on Long Island and served as a ship’s officer on Liberty Ships throughout WWII. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m. at Clark Chapel, 1551 Franklin St. S.E., Grand Rapids, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Rock Badgerow presiding. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
