Joseph “Joe” Zmudka, age 61, of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 8, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Zmudka; and brother, Douglas Zmudka. Joe is survived by mother, Patricia (Malone) Zmudka; sisters, Sheri Wert, Lisa Gibbs; sister-in-law, Sue Rinck; nephews, Christopher Wert, Ryan Zmudka, and Brandon Zmudka. “Carpet Joe” as he was fondly nicknamed, will be remembered as the easy going, laid back person who was always willing to lend a hand. Visitation is being held Friday, September 11, 2020 from 6-8 PM at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 12, 2020, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 2750 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Rev. Michael Goodwin, presiding. Covid restrictions will be followed at both locations requiring masks and social distancing. Interment St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
