OSHAUGHNESSY Kenneth C. K.C. OShaughnessy aged 50 of Ada passed away as a result of a cycling accident August 1 2011. K.C. was a graduate of Simsbury High School Simsbury CT and of the University of Arizona where he graduated with a B.S. in Geological Engineering. He received his M.B.A. from Indiana University and his Ph.D. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Since graduating from Wharton he had the joy of working at the job he loved as Professor at the Haworth College of Business at Western Michigan University. His greatest gift was his unique ability to make everyone he knew including his colleagues at WMU the Steelcase community fellow cyclists both present and former students friends relatives and most especially nieces and nephews (his kids) feel that he or she was the most important person in his life. In addition he enjoyed windsurfing yoga travel reading movies music laughter red wine people and life. He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth E. OShaughnessy; niece Kristin VanderVeen; father-in-law George Sorensen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years Lizbeth (Sorensen) OShaughnessy; mother Virginia OShaughnessy; brother William (Jacqui) OShaughnessy; sisters Jane OShaughnessy Julie (Jeff Woods) OShaughnessy Eileen Smith; parents-in-law Carolyn and John VanderVeen; brothers-in-law Dave (Sharon) VanderVeen William (Janet) Sorensen Johnnie (Cindy Jo) VanderVeen; sisters-in-law Chari (Michael Myers) Ahart Mimi (Philip) Hooker Rhonda (Ken) VanderZee Lori VanderVeen; loving nieces and nephews Melaina (Dan) Pazian Max Langer Thomas OShaughnessy Emma Woods (Goddaughter), Brendan Woods Dylan Woods Todd (Carrie) VanderVeen Mark (Liz) VanderVeen Susan (Rick) Pellegrom Lisa Sorensen Jennifer (Jason) Thurkettle Tonya Gross Chris (Susan) Gross Deniz Kilic Alex Hooker Seth (Erin) VanderZee Scott VanderZee; godson Quinn Skalka and many many special aunts uncles cousins and friends. A Celebration of K.C.s life will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church 47 Jefferson SE Rev. Anne Weirich officiating. Luncheon to follow at church. Visitation 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the OBrien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel 3980 Cascade Rd., SE. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the K.C. OShaughnessy Entrepreneurship Endowment at the Western Michigan University Foundation 1903 W. Michigan Avenue Kalamazoo MI 49008-5403. While relatively private about his faith K.C. was certain of his eternal home. This certainty and comfort led to his repeated request to Lizbeth that his eventual passing be a celebratory joyful event. Please join us in honoring his wishes.
