Kevin Robert Smith, age 62 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Lowell, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents Betty J and Francis E. Smith. He is survived by his wife Helen; children Jennifer (Al) Kozlowski, Jonathan (Carolyn), Jodi and Dustin (Melissa) Johnson; brothers Bruce (Elvia), Kit and Kent (Tina); sisters Kathleen (John) Schoen, Karen (Terry Prahl) Smith, Kim (Joe) Procter, Kasy (Tim) Fackler, Keely (Michael Norman) Smith, Kelly (Michael) Scheufelt and Kerry Smith; grandchildren Dallas, Casey, Devon, Victor, Oliver, Harper and Lillian; numerous nieces and nephews; and one of his oldest friends and business partner, Bucky (Kathy) Curtis; the mother of his children, Jane Curtis; and his dogs Rescue and Kyle. He was highly respected for his expertise in the dry cleaning industry having been past President of the Michigan Institute of Dry Cleaning and Laundry. Kevin and his ‘partner in crime’ Bucky, were in business together for 40 years. His hobbies included a passion for Corvettes and NASCAR racing. He was an active member of the Grand Valley Corvette Club since 1977. The world lost a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, business partner and friend. Kevin’s love for his family knew no bounds. When things seemed the worst Kevin had a way of making it better. Not only was he there for his family he was able to keep the workplace and wherever he was lighthearted with his humor and easy going style. He had a smile for everyone. Funeral service will be held Saturday 1:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids. The family will meet with friends and relatives Friday 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of West Michigan, 3077 Wilson Dr. NW, Grand Rapids MI 49534.
