Popma, Kim 03/10/1970 – 11/11/21

Kim Elizabeth Popma passed away peacefully at the age of 51 on Thursday, November 11, 2021 after a difficult battle with COVID-19.

Kim came to her adopted Popma family in 1975 from Seoul South Korea and resided in Cascade Township, Michigan where she grew up with her brother Jon and sister Meg.  Her early childhood experiences were the basis for her love of West Michigan and she remained a life-long resident of South East Grand Rapids.

Kim was the proud mother of and is survived by her four children.  Alex Popma, Spencer Popma, Loisa Popma and Thomas Foster.  Throughout her life Kim did her best for her kids.  Kim demonstrated her love for her children through her effort, dedication and willingness to give of herself for each of them.

While Kim had many passions in life, a few stand out:  Cooking of course would be the first and the family fondly remembers her tacos because of the love she poured into them.  Euchre too was a favorite pass time and she especially enjoyed teaching Loisa the tricks of the game.  She also became an amazing caregiver and made career out of caring for others in our community.  Finally, it would be hard not to mention her desire to win that huge Lotto jackpot using the birthdates of her children as the winning combination.

Always a lover of dogs, Kim’s most recent dog Haddesah had proven to be her favorite.  Even in death she will remain close to the dog she loved so much.

Kim is preceded in death by her mother Rita Alberta Heffron.  She is survived by her father Joe Popma, brother Jon Popma, sister Margaret Cole (Popma), sons Alex Popma, Spencer Popma, Thomas Foster and daughter Loisa Popma.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the ICU doctors and nurses of Blodgett Hospital, who cared for Kim through her last and difficult days.

Cremated remains will be interred in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Parnell, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests, with gratitude, that memorial contributions be made to Kids Food Basket.
