Marguerite Ann Smiggen “Margie”, age 86 of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Dr. James Joseph Smiggen. She is survived by her daughters Suzanne (Dr. Donald) Condit, Sharon (Daniel) Ruble, Sheila Smiggen; sister Madeline (Dr. Robert) Lokar; grandchildren Dr. Patrick (Dr. Meghan) Condit, Margaret (Daniel) Gibson, Anne Marie (Daniel) Talbot, Sara Ruble, Clare Ruble and Charlotte Ruble; and great grandson James Condit. Margie graduated from Mercy College (Detroit) as a registered nurse. Practicing at St. Louis University, Margie was chosen to serve on the first open heart surgery team. Margie practiced nursing part time while raising her beloved daughters. The joys of her life were faith, family, and friends. Her bright, blue Irish eyes and contagious laugh were her trademarks. Margie loved to travel and serve as first mate, sailing with her husband, Jim. Moving to Grand Rapids area in 1985, Margie discovered Sweet Adeline’s and the Garden Club of Grand Rapids where she made fast friends and lifetime memories. Her biggest fan in any performance was her husband, Jim. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 17, 11:00 a.m. at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr. S.E., Ada. Rev.Leonard Sudlik presiding. Friends and relatives may meet with the family one hour prior to the service at the church narthex. Rosary to be recited at 10:30 am with Mass to follow.
