Mary Lou Hicks, Age 87,  of Grand Rapids passed away on Tuesday, July 30.  She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, and son Gary R. Aarup and step children Karen (Hicks) Kreuzer and Steven E. Hicks.  Mary Lou is survived by her children, Deb (Dave) Park and Donelle (Brian) Christensen; step-daughters, Jeanine Buckner, Cindy (David McCaulley) Allen and Susan (Richard) Ike; brother Ron (Nancy ) Kollman. She cherished and enjoyed her 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.  Mary Lou had a lot of life employment experiences including Bissell, Duba’s and O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst.  She gave many years volunteering and loving her church family at Faith Lutheran Church and to the American Legion Auxiliary Furniture City Unit #258 as well as Pediatric Oncology Resource Team (PORT) at Helen Devos Children’s Hospital and Gilda’s Club.  Family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, August 9 from 4-7 PM at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids.  Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 10 at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 2740 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505, Rev. Kevin Sullivan officiating, with visitation one hour prior.  Memorial contributions can be made in Mary Lou’s name to Hospice of Michigan, 989 Spaulding Ave SE, Ada 49301, the American Legion Auxiliary Furniture City Unit #258, 401 N. Park Street NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525-2583, Helen Devos Children’s Hospital Pediatric Resource Team (PORT), 100 Michigan St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503)  or Faith Lutheran Church at aforementioned address.

  1. So very sorry. Lovely woman neighbor and friend to everyone she knew, and touched in life. I will , I am missing her so much now. I know she is with Larry an her son. Bless this beautiful woman, that God gave to all who knew her, and loved her.

  7. I met Mary Lou and Larry back in the 70’s and thought very highly of them. Such genuine people and I was so lucky to know them. My heart goes out to the family and I wish you peace.
