Michael A. Hoffhines, age 54 of San Jose, CA, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013. Mike was born in Grand Rapids, MI on November 2, 1958. He is preceded in death by his father William A. Hoffhines. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Marilyn Wright; son, Kyle; mother, Donna Hoffhines; brothers, Mark (Abby) Hoffhines, Dan (Heather) Hoffhines; nephews, Matthew, Carl, Adam, Everett and Anderson. Mike was a graduate of Forest Hills Northern High School class of 1976. He earned varsity letters in tennis and was an “All State” basketball player. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo College class of 1980. He went on to attend Michigan State Grad School and got his masters in Computer Science. In Lansing he met his wife Marilyn, and together they moved to Hawaii. There he taught at the University of Hawaii, he earned several degrees there and stopped just short of earning his Doctorate. In Hawaii Mike enjoyed the ocean and was able to go on several government sponsored Whale Watches. He loved to scuba dive as he loved all sports. He often spent a couple of weeks each summer in Northern Michigan as he so enjoyed Lake Michigan and The Sleeping Bear Dune area. After 10 years he moved to California where he began working for Apple and used his skills in computers and technology. He traveled the world helping to open stores for them until his illness. He fought a tough battle for over 2 years against Cancer and is at peace now. Per his request cremation has taken place. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held in June in San Jose.
