Richard Emerson Tierney passed away on March 28, 2020. Dick was the only child of Katherine and Walter Tierney who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gretchen; his two daughters, Tracy (Todd) Hayataka, Jennifer Tierney; 4 grandchildren, Tim, Michael, Sarah Hayataka and Cody Tierney. Gretchen’s sister and her two brothers became his siblings in life. Dick was a graduate of Hillsdale College and had an MBA from the University of Detroit. His career spanned forty years in the Aerospace and Defense Industry where he held senior management positions at Lear Sigler Inc., Smiths Industries and L-3 Communications. He also gave time and talent to Old Kent Bank and Trust Board of Directors, and several non-profit organizations continuing into his retirement. Dick’s primary mission in life centered on being a good husband, father, grandfather, friend and community contributor. Private services were held by the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods 8214 Pfeiffer Farms Dr SW, Byron Center, MI 49315.
