ELLINGER – Robert D. Ellinger of East Grand Rapids died July 25 2008 at the Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus. Mr. Ellinger was born June 8 1931 in Grand Rapids the son of Daniel R. and Irmabelle (Maskey) Ellinger. Bob graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 1949. He attended Michigan State and Western Michigan University earning several degrees including a masters. He taught at both Newaygo and Rockford High Schools prior to teaching at Jackson Community College where he taught English for many years. Mr. Ellinger was well known for his expertise in Chinese art and philosophy which he also taught. Surviving are several nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law Geri Ellinger of Pentwater. He was preceded in death by his brother Daniel R. and his step brother Glenn Morse. Friends may meet with the family on from 6 p.m. until service time at 7 p.m. at the O’Brien-Eggebeen and Gerst Funeral Home 3980 Cascade Rd., SE. Interment Oakwood Cemetery Allegan Michigan. Memorials may be made to the Paws with a Cause in lieu of flowers.
