Robert (Bob) Lettau, age 97 of Lowell, went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, October 10, 2015, with his family by his side. He was born to August and Mary (Churchiel) Lettau and grew up in Traverse City, Michigan. Robert served his country during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was very proud of his country and service. After his service, he married Irma L. Randall Saunders in 1945, who preceded him in death. He retired from Kelvinator’s in Wyoming, Michigan in 1980 after 33 years of service as a welder in Dept. 518. After his retirement, he enjoyed being with his grandchildren along with fishing, hunting, playing cribbage and the Detroit Tigers. He was preceded in death, besides his wife, by his daughter and son-in-law Mary Ellen and Marv Radtke and infant daughter Annette. He is survived by his son Gordon (Linda) Saunders of Tampa, FL and daughters Bettie Jane (Earle) Shelner of Sparta, MI and Lois Lynn of Wyoming, MI, along with 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and his special friends Bill Smith and Jerry Fikkert. A funeral service will be Thursday 1:00 p.m. at Roth-Gerst Chapel, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell MI. Rev. Ken Ford officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of West Michigan, 3077 Walker Ave. NW, Grand Rapids MI 49534.

  1. Sounds like a great guy for sure. He was my grand mother’s nephew. So my Dad also Robert would have been his cousin. My Dad also a WW2 vet. is still going strong at age 92.
