Ronald Hamilton Mackey

On Monday, February 10, 2020, Ronald Hamilton Mackey “Ron”, age 79 of Cascade, went to heaven and was welcomed with open arms by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his beautiful wife of 52 years, Sandy Mackey.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred Mackey, brother Gary Mackey, father-in-law and mother-in-law Raymond and Geraldine Serfass.  He is survived by his children, Laurie (Robert) Schultz, Greg (Ann) Mackey and Rob (Mary) Mackey; grandchildren, Kristi (Andrew) Hewitt, Andrew (Alyssa) Schultz, Chase Schultz, Taylor and Dylan Mackey, Jordan and Josh Mackey; great-grand daughter, Isla Hewitt; brothers-in-law, Donald (Siddy) Serfass and Jeffrey (Carolyn) Serfass; sister-in-law, Marilyn Mackey, several nieces and nephews, and special family friends Dave and Ellie Austin. Ron was born and raised in Staunton, Virginia and attended Robert E. Lee High School and Augusta Military Academy. He went on to graduate from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Marketing.  He spent the majority of his professional career living in Grand Rapids and managing several manufacturing plants for Simpson Industries.  During his retirement years he enjoyed driving for Harvey Cadillac and meeting new people.  He was a proud member of Cascade Country Club for over 35 years. Both he and his wife Sandy were actively involved in Cascade Christian Church, serving as deacons, elders and on various committees and bible studies, but their most cherished memory was their mission trip to Brazil. While we are saddened by the loss of our wonderful dad, Papa, great-grandfather and uncle, we rejoice in knowing he is whole again… chewing a Punch Cigar and on the golf course with several dear friends and relatives with his “kitten” Sandy by his side. Family will greet friends and relatives on Friday, February 21 from 3-6 PM at O’Brien Eggebeen Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 22 at Cascade Christian Church, 2829 Thornapple River Drive SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, Pastor Jill Forton officiating.
