Anne (Ruthanne Schnitzler) Metcalf, age 88 of Grand Rapids, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2005. She is survived by her children, William (Jane) Metcalf, Cathy Metcalf, Thomas (Mary) Metcalf, Mary (Glenn) Bowers; sister, Barbara MacAulay; grandchildren, Daniel and Lydia Metcalf, John and Beth Wahowiak, Arthur and Sam Metcalf, Alex and Drew Bowers; one great grandson, Joseph Finn Metcalf; also nieces and nephews. Anne was a very compassionate and religious person. She volunteered to help the blind by typing Braille, taught English as a foreign language, and was instrumental in petitioning the developer to build Jolly Roger Swim Club. Anne’s talents and passions were painting, quilting, cooking, needlework, swimming, bridge, and golf. She will be dearly missed. Anne’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all of the staff at Heather Hills and Community Caregivers for their years of tireless care. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 11:00 a.m. at St Paul the Apostle, 2750 Burton St. S.E., Grand Rapids. Msgr. Ernest P Schneider presiding. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. A Rosary Prayer Service will be held Thursday 6:00 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday 6-8:00 p.m. at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road S.E., Grand Rapids.
