Sherry Ella McCarthy, age 66 of Cascade Township, MI passed away peacefully at home with her family on Wednesday July 15, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Irene J. Bolen; and pets, Cha Ching, Leigha, Pumpkin, Mozart, and Einstein. She will always be remembered by her husband of 45 years, Jack K. McCarthy; her son, James W. McCarthy; brothers, Robert (Val) Bolen, Bruce (Jane) Bolen; sister, Renee (Lynn) Kermeen; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Lori) McCarthy, James (Rhonda) McCarthy; nieces and nephews, Avree (Gene) Sturgeon, Amber (Justin) Tabor, Alex and Sofie Bolen, Josh (Ashleigh) McCarthy, Brittney (Nick) Steimel, Jim McCarthy, Ben (Stephanie) McCarthy, Tim McCarthy; great nieces and nephews, Mason and Skye Sturgeon, Shaymus, Sean-Patrick and Tadleigh McCarthy, Isaiah Steimel; special friends, Christine Sanfillipo, Shandra Scheidel, Kitty and Gary Bolte; and pets Tom-Tom, Ninja, Cleopatra, Dude, Aspen and Oakley. Sherry attended Brookside Elementary, Burton Junior High, graduated from Grand Rapids Central in 1973 and completed her Associates Degree at Grand Rapids Junior College. Over the years she has worked at doctor and insurance offices but by far her most important job was being a good mother to her son James. She enjoyed traveling all over the world and had a special place in her heart for Walt Disney World. She loved all animals and fed just about every stray in the neighborhood. She enjoyed all of the holidays but especially Christmas.  She loved decorating our home with lights, Christmas trees, nutcrackers, snow globes and Christmas ornaments from all over the world. You always knew where you stood with Sherry and she was never shy to laugh at herself. She had an infectious laugh and smile. Sherry lost a long battle with ALS but always believed someday there would be a cure. Let’s hope she is right. Due to limited space, funeral services will be reserved for family members only, and will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 2:00 PM with visitation one hour prior at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd.     Thinking of you and all Sherry’s loved ones. There aren’t words to ease the pain of such a difficult loss. Her obituary honored her beautifully and made me wish I had known Sherry. What a giving soul. Praying for you all

    Aunt Sherry will be sorely missed! I remember going on the Cincinnati trip with you and we always had so much fun. She was so loving and caring. Our whole family loves you all so much and our thoughts are with you!
