Charity of one’s choice

Susan passed from this earth suddenly surrounded by her family on December 21, 2020 at the age of 80.  She was preceded in death by her father, Robert J. Trew; mother, Phyllis Marie Trew; sisters, Janet Kay Lax, June Agnes Trew; and brother, Robert James Trew.

She leaves behind her 3 daughters, Ann Elizabeth (Gary) Douglas, Jane Ellen Weis, and Susan Josephine (Nicholas) Rankin-Sansone; brothers, Michael John (Debbie) Trew, Roger Edwin (Nancy) Trew; sister, Patricia Ann (Claude) Eggertsen; 9 grandchildren, Rachel (Dan) Beavers, Russel Weis, Leah (David) Klein, Amanda Jo (Sam) Hathcock, Travis Richard Douglas, Trent Chester Douglas, Josephine Bianca Sansone, Priscilla Jane Sansone, Gavin Nicholas Sansone; and 5 great grandchildren, Madeline, Abigail and Matthew Schutt, Kiegan Weis and Graham Hathcock.

Susan graduated from Aquinas with a degree in social work and has dedicated her life to serving the mentally disabled and others.  She had a truly generous spirit and empathy for others in need or pain.  Although she would never call herself a feminist, she spent the second half of her life being a formidable example of an independent, working woman who balanced her career and motherhood successfully without complaining.  Susan loved people and found life “fascinating”.  Her sharp wit, big laugh and positive disposition and outlook made her a true pleasure.  There was not a shallow bone in her body.

She adored classical music, Broadway and had the utmost respect for the arts.  She would revel in her grandchildren playing instruments, singing, and dancing and travelled regularly to attend their events.  She may have given a standing ovation or two that was not fully earned.

Faith was a priority to her.  She was Protestant much of her life and she joined the Catholic church in her 60s with her daughter Jane.  They attended church regularly.  To say she will be missed is an understatement however, she is at peace and content with her Lord.

There will be visitation on Monday, December 28 from 6pm to 8pm at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel and 11am Mass of Christian Burial on December 29 at St. Alphonsus Parish. Father Rick Potts, presiding. COVID restrictions will be enforced with masks and social distancing required. Interment at Hebron Township Cemetery. Susan’s policy was to give $10 to every charity that asked her for a donation.  Memorial donations can be made by giving $10 to any charity of your choice.
