Virginia Weidenfeller, a life-time resident of the Grand Rapids area, died Sunday the 9th of April at Butterwortth Hospital peacefully with family nearby. Born November 24, 1924, Virginia or “Ginny,” known by her friends, received a BS in Education from Central Michigan University in 1946. She taught 1st grade and kindergarten for Wyoming Public Schools at Rogers Lane for 24 years.  She helped form the lives of many young people who remember her still for her strict, loving, and caring approach to their education.  In 1948 she married Edwin Burke, who preceded her in death in 1975.  Edwin and Ginny raised three boys over the course of their 27 year marriage. Ginny loved singing, camping, traveling and cruises, breakfast clubs, socializing with friends, spending time her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  If you knew Ginny, you loved her, and in her presence you knew you were in the room with someone special.  She often remarked that she was lucky to find two great loves.  Her second husband of 34 years Herbert “Herbie” Weidenfeller preceded her in death in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her niece Mary and nephew Tom. She is survived by her children Jethro Burke (Laura), Phillip Burke (Suzanne), David Burke, William Weidenfeller (Mary Jo), and Mary Scott; nephews John R (Marilyn), Jim (Cheryl), John P (Kris), Wayne; nieces Barbara and Karen, Judy; grandchildren Crandall (Jason), Malissa (Tempie), Erik, Lauren (Joshua), Taylor, Jacob (Leah), Zackary, Jerrod, Andrew “Bo” (Samira), Shannon, Sarah, Kristen and Michael; great grandchildren Madelynn, William, Lila, Everleigh, Leila, Lucas and Adelynn. A private graveside service will be held.
