VERSLUYS – William Versluys Sr., aged 84 of Grand Rapids Township passed away November 10 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Lois; grandsons Jason and Nicholas DeRuischer; four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife Carol; children William (Connie) Versluys Kathie (Ward) Poll Karen (Buck) DeRuischer Bob Versluys Dave (Penny) Versluys Deb Versluys; sisters-in-law Jan (Ron) Dertien Linda (Ed) Francik Evelyn Versluys Helen (Jon) Baker Barb (John) Rutka Angie VanderWal; brothers-in-law Mike Hillis Harold (Barb) Mulder Gord (Millie) Mulder; 31 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He was one of the founding members of the Grand Rapids Township Fire Department and he was an active Firefighter for 45 years. Mr. Versluys was a life member of Mayfair Christian Reformed Church the Kent County Fire Chiefs West Michigan Fire Chiefs and the LEPIC Committee. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. at Mayfair Christian Reformed Church 1736 Lyon N.E., Pastor Jack DeJong and Pastor Bill Versluys II officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel 3980 Cascade Rd. S.E. and one hour prior to the service at church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Reformed World Relief or Lowell Senior Neighbors.
